This is a missive from the most nondescript kind of afternoon
Adrift in a forty-strong signoff chain
She reaches for her crown as the queen of the apathetic
Idly updating the essential sends

The attention to detail and grammar she was hired for
Twisted into horseshit, swallowed and sold
The money is alright, it’s pretty nice not to feel worried
And that’s nothing to be sniffed at but she was pretty sure

That there used to be more.

Some minutes into Wellington’s Wednesdays
In a brown woollen sweater with geometric knit
And an old pair of cowboy boots
Ernesto from Mexico
Takes the proffered Gibson, straps himself onto it
And if you’ve not seen it, I can’t over-recommend it
It’s the six sorta minutes that kicks you right in the heart
Takes you out of the afternoon, puts things in perspective
You can find it on the internet, it’s really not that hard

When you’re reaching for that crown
That only slows you down
Please remember that there were bars and there were basements
There was a feeling not entirely the stuff you drunk
